Traceable evidence
We link to the scientific work behind an article, using its permanent identifier (DOI) where available. University and museum releases provide additional context. A press release does not replace a research paper; we identify statements based on an institution’s account.
How we check claims
Numbers, animal groups, localities and dates are checked against the sources actually available to us. If only an abstract is accessible, we do not add supposed full-text details. Articles distinguish observations, reconstructions and hypotheses. Translations should retain the same findings and uncertainties.
This process also uses AI-assisted checks. Checking a source is not independent scientific peer review. We do not claim review by human specialists without specific evidence that it took place.
Images and reconstructions
Fossil photographs, figures from papers and newly created illustrations serve different purposes. Reused figures require source and rights information. An illustration, including a photorealistic AI reconstruction, is not new scientific evidence. Uncertain anatomy or imagined scenes must not be presented as established discoveries.
Report a correction
Please send corrections to redaktion@tiefenzeit.com, including the article link, the relevant passage and your source.
We assess reports against the sources. For a material factual correction, we explain the change in the article and provide its date. Typographical errors may be corrected without a separate notice.
Advertising and editorial judgement
Commission-bearing shopping links and paid partnerships are identified as advertising. They do not replace sources and must not determine our scientific judgement.
